What is "Terpene"?
"Terpene" is a generic term for chemical compounds found in essential oils of plants such as pine trees and oranges. They are widely used in various industries, from beverages, processed foods, and everyday household items, to fragrances, pharmaceutical intermediates, and resin ingredients.
The chemical formula of a terpene contains a basic building block of five carbon atoms (isoprene), to which the additional numbers of carbon atoms are present in multiples of five. The class having 10 carbon atoms C10 is known as monoterpene.
